Beachy Bolthole

About Wells-next-the-Sea

There is so much to explore from Beachy Bolthole, including beautiful beaches, seaside towns, stately homes and wildlife nature reserves.

Wells-next-the-Sea is a delightful seaside town. It has a lovely Georgian green, and in the heat of the summer this is a welcome place to enjoy a picnic in the shade of the trees which surround it.

The town’s Staithe Street is home to several traditional and contemporary shops, places to eat, galleries and the Maltings; here you will find interest in the history of Wells, exhibitions, a bar and café. The Maltings also shows films throughout the year to delight the locals and visitors alike.

The quay is a wonderful place to watch people and boats, come and go. Still a working fishing port, you can take a trip out to sea to try your luck at catching some supper. If you prefer to stay closer to the shore, you can enjoy a boat trip round the harbour or catch crabs from the quay, known locally as ‘gillying’.

A walk along the beach bank will take you from the town to Pinewoods Holiday Park and the picturesque beach, with bordering pine forest and colourful quirky beach huts, where you can rent beach huts on a daily basis throughout the year.

Wells-next-the-Sea is set in North Norfolk’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is part of the largest coastal nature reserve in England and Wales. As such it is a perfect location for bird watchers where the wide expanse of marshes provides the perfect habitat for wading birds and winter geese.

Wells-next-the-Sea is perfectly positioned on the North Norfolk Coast to access all that this wonderful part of the country has to offer.

Things To Do

A couple of miles to the west is Holkham Estate, with its stately home and beautiful grounds. Along the coast 10 miles to the east is Morston and Blakeney with it's Nature Reserve, managed by the National Trust. From here you can also take boat trips to see the seals at Blakeney Point.

You can hire electric bikes and explore the area with ease, or catch the Coasthopper bus and jump on and off as it suits you.

If your holiday is during Wells carnival week, you will be treated to a wonderful variety of family events including live music on the Butlands, a large procession of floats through the town, food and craft stalls and children’s competitions which include a duck race, sandcastle building and gillying.

Birdwatching, walking, swimming, sailing, kayaking, sea fishing are all available in the area, or just relax at the caravan on the south facing decking and enjoy switching off from it all.

Dog Friendly

Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham have miles of dog-friendly beach for your dog to play on. There are wonderful dog walks from the door in both directions and if you and your dog have the energy, you can walk for miles away from any roads.

There are lots of dog-friendly pubs and cafes in the area who welcome dogs.

The Coasthopper bus, which is a great way of exploring the coastline, is very happy to take dogs for a fee of £1.

The walk into town from the site takes about 20 minutes and is along a safe purpose built path away from the road and along the harbour.

We love dogs and Beachy Bolthole welcomes them; however park rules stipulate that they can not be left alone in the caravan. Dogs must be on leads at all times in Pinewoods Holiday Park.
